Happy Easter! Easter can be a similar time to Christmas, we have holidays and people tend to over indulge on chocolate, after all who doesn’t love an Easter egg? In this blog i’m going to let you know all about how you can anti-oxidize your body with chocolate . That’s right chocolate can be healthy and contain many health benefits. First of all not all chocolate is good for you but the purer the form of chocolate then the more healthy it is for you. It’s all about the percentage of cocoa in the chocolate, when chocolate is made cocoa seeds from the cocoa plant are roasted and ground to form a liquid that is made into chocolate. Dark chocolate above 85% cocoa is the healthiest, milk chocolate tends to have many additives and sweeteners that aren’t nutritious for your body. Dark chocolate that is 85% cocoa or above contains many anti-oxidants that can combat dangerous free radicals in the body. Too many of these dangerous free radicals can cause diseases such as Cancer,  Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, diabetes and Cardio Vascular health problems to name a few. You can even get chocolate that is 100% cocoa and is very bitter to the taste. In one study dark chocolate was shown to have more anti-oxidant activity than blueberries and acai berries. Believe it or not dark chocolate is also very nutritious for your body a 100 g serving of dark chocolate contains :

  • 11 grams of fiber.
  • 67% of the RDA for Iron.
  • 58% of the RDA for Magnesium.
  • 89% of the RDA for Copper.
  • 98% of the RDA for Manganese.
  • It also has plenty of potassium, phosphorus, zinc and selenium.

Not only do you get the anti-oxidizing benefits from eating dark chocolate you get a good amount of vitamins and minerals that your body requires to function healthily.   So if you’re planning on eating chocolate this Easter reach for the 85% and above chocolate eggs and steer clear of the milk chocolate.
